According to Papa, 5.1 Music is the first music library in the United States to offer all of its recordings in surround sound.  So far, they offer eight releases with ten compositions per release.  The discs contain five versions of each composition: a full version, underscore, sixty-second, thirty-second, and a tag (stinger).  The musical “flavors” include Hip-Hop, jazz, acoustic guitar, percussion and other styles.

5.1 offers licenses for Non-Broadcast and Broadcast use of their compositions (needle drop, annual blanket or production blanket).  Mixes can also be customized if clients want certain instruments deleted or emphasized.  All production is handled in-house by twenty composers and musicians.

Former MCA-I member Kathy Wood dies

Posted on September 10th, 2008 by John Osgood

The MCA-I Atlanta Chapter is saddened by the death of Anita Kathleen “Kathy” Wood.  Kathy passed away on August 20, 2008 after a battle with ovarian cancer.  She was diagnosed last December and underwent three surgeries during a six-week stay in the hospital.  She did have some good months at home with her husband, Leonard.  Kathy had also developed a love for writing and was working toward a Master’s degree.

Kathy was very active in the Atlanta section of SMPTE before moving to Phoenix ten years ago.  She generously gave her time to help the Atlanta section grow.  She will be missed by both the Atlanta community and by all of her friends and family in Phoenix.

We at MCA-I Atlanta extend our condolences to Kathy’s husband, Leonard, and to all other members of Kathy’s family.  Thanks to Anne Fowler of Niche Video Products for reporting this information.  For more information, contact Anne by visiting www.nichevideo.com.  You can also visit the SMPTE Atlanta Section at www.atlanta-smpte.org.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
John Osgood

He remembers many trips with his father to use the tube testers at nearby drugstores. His father gave him a two-transistor radio kit from Radio Shack for his birthday one year. When he was ten, he got a Radio Shack AM radio kit with five tubes. He and his father spent several weeks putting it together and it worked perfectly. His father’s interest in ham radio further amplified his interest in radio theory and electronics. For a school fair ... read more
