PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Dear Friends:
By President Don Glass

I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for choosing me to serve as the President of the Atlanta Chapter of MCA-I. I will do everything in my power to insure that the best interests of the organization are perpetuated and maintained at all times. It is my conviction that the MCA-I presents a unique opportunity for media professionals within Atlanta to further develop their careers and personal potentialities. Devoting ones time to contribute to worthwhile causes and purposes without thought of self-gain is one of the highest aims individuals can aspire too. While this may sound altruistic and even a little rhetorical for some of us, I would like to ask that you consider the following paraphrase, from Emerson’s Universal Law of Compensation: A perfect equity adjusts its balance in all parts of life. Every act, whether good or bad, rewards itself in a twofold manner; first in the thing, and secondly in the circumstance. Cause and effect, means and ends, seed and fruit, cannot be severed; for the effect already blooms in the cause, the end preexists in the means.

My interpretation of this essay is that by giving freely and unselfishly of ones time and energy, that we must realize a direct or indirect benefit, and even more importantly that this is a law that is inviolable. By deliberately choosing to help further the purposes of a good cause, or another, one cannot help but realize personal benefits and gain. While the benefits will not always be monetary, they most assuredly will be significant and noteworthy to the personal and spiritual development of the individual.

The MCA-I has a rich history in Atlanta serving the needs of video producers and media professionals. The MCA-I has undergone a series of changes, and most recently the name change from the ITVA to the MCA-I. In many respects, I believe we are all still recovering from the shock of the events of 911. For many of us job security in today’s market is also highly tenable. We can make the MCA-I our professional membership and a place where we can go with confidence that our peers will support us, as we support them. I encourage each and every one of you to take personal responsibility to make the MCA-I the very best that it can be. Make a commitment to invest your time and effort into furthering the initiatives, and achieving the objectives of the organization, and you will be rewarded in measures of personal fulfillment that only unselfish acts can bring to fruition. Doing little things each day, and even one small thing; when a large group of people are inspired to do so, are the acts that will give the organization a mighty and unstoppable momentum. Today is the day – do something for the MCA-I today.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
John Osgood

As a boy, John Osgood was enthralled by the maze of wires, the glow of tubes, and the array of other parts inside the family’s stereo console and television. He remembers many trips with his father to use the tube testers at nearby drugstores. His father gave him a two-transistor radio kit from Radio Shack for his birthday one year. When he was ten, he got a Radio Shack AM radio kit with five tubes. He and his father spent several weeks putting it together and it worked perfectly. His father’s interest in ham radio further amplified his interest in radio theory and electronics. For a school fair ... read more
